Facts about Syria: Syria has been in a state of emergency since 1963 and there is a revolution going on there as of this very sentence. There are numbers available on the number of coups that have happened there, but really, they are endless coups. Coup, after coup, after coup.
Syria is also very ancient. Damascus is the capital, and that city is even mentioned in the bible and goes back thousands of years. Many empires have occupied this area, and most have crumbled. For many centuries it may have been the capital of the western world.
