Private Eddie Slovik was not a soldier. A small time thief drafted by the USA into world war 2 in 1942, he quickly deserted his unit in France. After officially deserting and filing paperwork with the military police he expected to be given a sentence of 20 years hard labour, which was the normal sentence in desertion trials.
Instead Private Eddie got the shock of his life when General Dwight Eisenhower himself signed an execution order for Eddie, and this happened only two days before Christmas.
He is the first U.S. soldier executed for desertion since the Civil War. The order for execution, signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower, is was never applied to other deserters. It is not known why Private Slovik was singled out.
Eddie suffered a breakdown and assumed because he stole gum and chips when he was a teenager that they labeled him a criminal and decided to punish him for those petty crimes.

Usually when it rains it pours but in the South West England city of Dorset, it rains blue balls.
Above is a sample collected by local Dorset citizen Steve Hornsby [photo below], who has a jar full of these balls. The balls do not smell and are not sticky and Mr. Hornsby plans to keep them in his fridge until he cracks this mystery.
Local University Science Assistant Jodie Pegg had some ideas of her own to the identity of the blue spheres. “These have been implicated in previous ‘strange goo’ incidents,” she said. “I’d have thought it’s a little early for spawning but I suppose we’ve had a very mild winter.
“The transmission of eggs on birds’ feet is well documented and I guess if a bird was caught out in a storm this could be the cause.”
32 year old Dante Autullo of Chicago was doing some handiwork around the house when he thought he had simply brushed his head near his nail gun. He continued working on his home and went to bed that night feeling fine. It wasn’t until he woke up the next day that he felt ill and went to the emergency room where an x-ray revealed a 3 inch nail almost in the center of his brain.
Doctors successfully removed the nail and Dante feels as normal as ever.
